Macaulay Culkin Basement Show (Jan 2014)

Image
In the winter of 2014, my pal, Jim told me that his out-rock band, quit, were invited to play a show with Macauley Culkin's conceptual band, PIZZA UNDERGROUND.  The concept, that the Brooklyn-based group dreamt up was reworking Velvet Underground lyrics to be pizza themed.  Pretty clever.  I mean thats 2 things that most American hipster kids can agree on. Pizza and VU.  I was a bit jealous and wanted to play too.  Jim, being a most excellent friend and cohort in noise making, asked the promoter if HUMAN ADULT BAND, could play.  There wasn't room to add another band but the promoter suggested quit & HAB do a collab set.  It was cool of Jim and quit to agree to do a collab set with us.  I was thankful, as the events that follow were quite memorable and kind of represent HAB's final hurrah as a New Brunswick band. A couple weeks before the gig, (which was booked as a basement show), all three members of quit and 3 then current members Human Adul...

Mortfest 2003

Image
On 8.30.03 in New Brunswick we had a music and art party.  We called it Mortfest, a reference to a setting in a John Waters film.  Three NJ bands of friends and many visual artists participated.  The three bands were Human Adult Band, Dogo & Crackerjacks and Magnet City Kids.  Dogo played avant sludge (Mortfest set CDr released on d.i.h.d. records in around 2005).  Magnet City Kids, whom eventually became a Philly band, played an upbeat noisy jazz punk.  Portions of Human Adult Band's set is available in the digital realm at the player below. The full set (replete with all bloopers & ragers) is also available as a disc from the d.i.h.d. link below.  As for the visual artists that night, they hung their work on the walls of the kitchen and living room and sold their wares (paintings, postcards etc).  It was a very good vibe with breaded tofu dinner, bottles of wine and beer. 3.13.04: Talking Head Club, Baltimore, MD

Image
(Ground Monkeys [MA]) (Chester Wetlands @ Talking Head Club) *** In Late Winter of 2004 Human Adult Band did our first proper tour.  After hosting a noise show in New Brunswick a few nights before, we left for Baltimore. (Massachusetts' Ground Monkeys were on the noise bill in NB; ck Heat Retention Records for recorded evidence of that excellent band).  Selections from the Adult's Baltimore set are below. The day after the Baltimore show, HAB and our bandmates from other bands, Buckets & Batteries and Magnet City Kids, visited Fell's Point In Balt.  Some of us, including myself, set out to distribute our wares to the record shops.  Sound Garden (the store) took some.  So did Reptilian Records which seemed to specialize in noise rock.  I had an odd assortment of merch.  Save for a couple 3" CDrs reserved for select rockers, (like Steve O'Malley, who we'd play with in a few days), Human Adult Band really didn't put together a proper release for the t...
